A recent attempt by tech founders in San Francisco to biohack lobsters, with the ambition of eventually controlling their nervous systems using the OpenClaw AI agent, ended in failure and the death of the animals before any surgical implantation could occur. Elliot Roth, 32, and William Joy, 19, residents of the "Biopunk House" — part of a network advised by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman — planned to adapt a remote-control kit designed for cockroaches to implant into lobsters. Their stated goal was to demonstrate basic control over the crustaceans, such as directing them to pinch their claws, before integrating the control with OpenClaw, a popular open-source AI agent.
